Birdies & Bids

Though the event on May 16 was canceled due to weather, Birdies & Bids still made an impact. The funds raised will benefit Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center - College Station, which has experienced rapid growth in the last several years.

Since 2021, the cancer center has seen an 86 percent increase in appointments, a 64 percent increase in oncology infusion treatments and a 10 percent increase in radiation oncology treatments.

Funds will support several key services offered at no cost to patients, such as:

• Shuttle service for patients in rural Washington County who do not have reliable transportation for their treatment appointments in College Station
• Nurse navigators who help guide patients and their caregivers throughout their cancer journey, serving as a point person, advocate and educator

Funds may also be used for future technology needs, such as:

• A second linear accelerator for radiation therapy, which will allow us to serve an additional 35 patients per day
• A dedicated PET machine to help detect cancers by revealing atypical metabolic activity in tissues
