Linear Accelerator

Linear AcceleratorAbout half of all patients diagnosed with cancer will need radiation therapy during the course of their treatment. With the opening of our Radiation Oncology center in January 2016, we are able to provide radiation treatments to 21 patients on average each day. With your help, we can provide life-saving radiation therapy to 35 more patients per day with the purchase of a second linear accelerator.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation, delivered by a linear accelerator, to shrink tumors and kill cancer cells.

State-of-the-Art, Precise Treatment

TrueBeamTM is equipped with innovative technology that synchronizes imaging and treatment functions, precisely targeting tumors and sparing healthy tissue. The precision of the TrueBeamTM system is measured in increments of less than a millimeter. The system rotates around the patient to deliver radiation treatment from nearly any angle, and performs accuracy checks every ten milliseconds.

Safety and Comfort

The advanced technology in TrueBeamTM delivers treatment 50% faster, and generates high-quality images using a 25% lower dose of x-ray. In addition, the TrueBeamTM linear accelerator is designed to reduce treatment times without compromising precision and quality, to minimize the discomfort of staying still for long periods and reduce the impact of daily treatments on a patient's everyday life. Precise, image-guided treatments can be delivered in as little as two minutes a day.

Stop the Bleed

Stop the Bleed campaignAs a Level III Trauma Accredited hospital, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - College Station is implementing "Stop the Bleed," a White House initiative which empowers bystanders to act quickly and help save lives before professional first response personnel arrive on the scene of an emergency.

No matter how rapid the arrival of emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person can bleed to death within five minutes, and depending on the situation first responders may not be able to treat them in time. The "Stop the Bleed" program provides training and supplies kits to equip individuals to help preserve life until professional help arrives on the scene. Participants, such as law enforcement officers, firefighters, security personnel, teachers, an other civilians are trained in basic life-saving medical interventions, including bleeding control and opening an airway.
