Thanks to you, Taylor introduces 3D mammography

Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in women, second only to skin cancer. Thanks to your gifts, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Taylor has added breast tomosynthesis, commonly known as 3D mammography, to its arsenal in the fight against this disease.

3D mammography helps doctors find and diagnose breast cancers earlier and more accurately than traditional mammograms. By moving around the breast, the machine takes X-rays from different angles and combines them into a digital 3D model of the breast. With a more complete and higher quality image, doctors are able to make accurate diagnoses—often without the need for additional imaging—and have seen a reduction in the rate of false positives.

One of the most significant advantages of 3D mammography is its ability to detect breast cancer at an earlier stage, dramatically improving patient outcomes. Studies have shown that while traditional 2D mammography catches cancer 59% of the time, 3D mammography increases this detection rate to 80%.

Since installing the 3D mammography machine, Baylor Scott & White – Taylor has screened more than 200 patients per month. With this substantial growth, the department has also expanded its scheduling availability and added an additional tech to meet patient volumes.

The addition of 3D mammography at Baylor Scott & White – Taylor is a significant step forward in the fight against breast cancer. Thanks to your generous gifts, more women have access to this advanced screening technology. Your support is ultimately saving lives through early detection and treatment.
