Peek-a-boo! It’s Round Rock’s new NICU

Thanks to the generosity of our community and a transformational $7 million donation, the new Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock opened in June 2025. For parents facing the uncertainty of a newborn’s medical needs, this unit offers not just advanced care—but comfort, closeness and peace of mind.

The NICU features 10 private rooms, each thoughtfully designed with pull-out sofas, recliners, and refrigerators and warmers for milk and formula. There’s even a dedicated space for twins, along with two family rooms where parents can stay overnight before discharge—giving them the chance to care for their babies with nearby support and ensuring a smooth, confident transition home. With 24/7 visiting hours and AngelEye video monitoring, families can remain connected every step of the way.

As Round Rock and surrounding communities grow, so does the need for compassionate, local care. Births at the hospital have surged by 40%, and this expansion ensures that families can stay together during such a vulnerable time.

“This is about keeping families together,” said Deirdre Martin-Ross, director of women’s services. “It’s about giving parents the support they need, right here at home.”
