“Topping out” in Round Rock

Leadership, staff and friends of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock gathered to celebrate the official “topping out” of the new patient tower.

The “topping out” ceremony represents a milestone in construction when the last beam is placed to complete a building’s frame.

“About 10 months ago, we stood in this very spot celebrating the beginning of construction,” Jay Fox, president of the Greater Austin Region, said at the ceremony on December 5.

“Today, the new tower is a visible testament to the hard work and planning needed to continue to serve our growing community and keep the well-being of our patients at the forefront, which is core to our mission.”

The patient tower is part of an expansion of our Round Rock hospital, designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population in the area.

The building will feature a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and will expand the capacity of various departments—including med/surg and labor and delivery. Plans for the expansion also include:

  • Additional operating rooms, cath labs and procedural areas
  • Expansion and upgrades to common areas
  • Advanced equipment for various departments
  • Shell space for future expansion of our Emergency Department and operating suites

Growth in Pflugerville

Although the facility is only five years old, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Pflugerville is already experiencing a growth spurt. Plans are underway to expand the Pflugerville campus to include a three-story medical office building that will triple clinic capacity.

Plans for the expansion also include:

  • Additional beds for Med/Surg and the ED
  • On-site urgent care
  • Advanced imaging with nuclear medicine, new CT machine and new X-ray room
  • Enhanced operating room capabilities with a larger sterile processing area and space for future growth
  • Dedicated space for cardiology procedures
  • New services like interventional radiology and cath lab
