On the road in Brenham
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Brenham launches oncology transport services, making cancer treatment more accessible for those in need.
Thanks to the generosity of Ron Hall and other donors in our community, a dedicated new transport van hit the road in December 2023 to help cancer patients in Brenham and the surrounding area make the trip to College Station for their treatments.
Ron Hall, a devoted supporter with a profound connection to Baylor Scott & White, played a pivotal role in turning this initiative into a reality. Driven by his own battle with cancer, Ron's compassion is evident in the thoughtful design and purpose of the transport van.
“The entire staff was wonderful—the front desk people, the technicians, the doctors. They were all so friendly and welcoming,” Ron said. “After my treatment, I asked what they needed to make their jobs easier. Instead, they wanted something that would make their patients’ lives easier. That’s why I decided to get involved.”
The van accommodates up to eight people with the option to hold two wheelchairs and makes the round-trip between Brenham and College Station twice per day. Though priority is given to cancer patients, transport is open to other patients with a demonstrated hardship in finding a ride to receive services only offered in College Station.
"I've been through the experience myself—driving 90 minutes to College Station for cancer treatment five days a week for six weeks, my wife driving me when I couldn't get there myself."

“I’ve been through the experience myself—driving 90 minutes to College Station for cancer treatment five days a week for six weeks, my wife driving me when I couldn’t get there myself,” Ron said. “Many of these patients—for a variety of reasons—struggle to get to College Station for the treatments that could save their lives. They might be unable to afford to pay for transportation or are physically incapable of getting there by themselves. That took me back, and I knew I needed to make their lives easier with this transport van."
With the support of generous donors like Ron, our oncology transport van is not just a means of transportation—it’s a symbol of hope and support for those battling cancer in the region. Together, we make strides toward a brighter, more accessible future for cancer care.
