Save the date for Boots & Bandanas!

Dust off your boots for May 4, 2024.

Panda Express® associates met kids like Kutter Shed (and his little sister) who benefited from the physical and occupational therapy suite.

Save the date for the Visionaries’ Boots & Bandanas event, featuring live country music by one of your favorite performers, along with a Schoepf’s BBQ dinner, dancing and both a live and silent auction, all benefiting Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center.

At the sold-out event in 2022, funds raised totaled more than $450,000, almost doubling the amount raised at the previous event  in 2019.

This year, proceeds will support equipment and training for a new pediatric cardiovascular surgery program under development at McLane Children’s.

Despite excellent cardiology care, each year more than 120 children are referred outside of McLane Children’s and the Baylor Scott & White system for heart surgery or transplant. At McLane Children’s, our goal is to ease families’ stress during a profound healthcare experience like heart surgery by growing the services we offer right here in Central Texas.

Adding pediatric cardiovascular surgery

McLane Children’s has a robust cardiology program, diagnosing and treating pediatric heart conditions caused by disease, genetic condition or virus. However, children requiring heart surgery or heart transplant must be referred outside our System, commonly to larger cities like Houston or Dallas.

On top of the anxiety of facing a serious heart condition, these patients and their families often spend months in the hospital for treatment, incurring the additional expenses and stress that come with being a long way from home.

With your help, McLane Children’s is developing a pediatric cardiovascular surgery program to help ease this burden. To learn more, contact Jordan Castillo, JD, CFRE, at 254.899.3776 or Jordan.Castillo@BSWHealth.org.

Your gifts could support needs such as:

  • Training for physicians, nurses and staff
  • Surgical equipment, such as cardiac bypass machines that take over the heart’s function during procedures requiring the heart to be stopped
  • Pre/post-op care equipment, such as an exercise stress test system to help physicians evaluate the body’s response to exercise, determine a treatment plan or assess risk for a surgical procedure
