Austin/Round Rock region achieves Magnet® designation

The Austin/Round Rock region becomes the second complete region in our system to achieve this prestigious recognition.

Congratulations are in order for the Austin/Round Rock region, which recently became one of less than 8 percent of hospitals and even fewer regions nationwide to have earned Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The region includes five hospitals in Round Rock, Lakeway, Pflugerville, Taylor, and Cedar Park, as well as all other departments, clinics, and locations in the area where registered nurses provide care.

The Magnet designation is a testament to the invaluable presence and contributions of our nurses in making healthcare better for those we serve, as well as an environment that engages staff and facilitates great ideas to improve patient outcomes. The process rigorously examined 90 examples demonstrating structural empowerment of nurses; exemplary professional practice; transformational leadership; and new knowledge, innovations, and improvements.

“Our inaugural designation is significant, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Jay Fox, regional president for the Greater Austin area. “These results demonstrate a singular truth—that our nurses’ positive impact on patient care is unparalleled and their resilience is second to none.”

Ten other hospitals throughout the Baylor Scott & White system are among those honored with the award, including Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Hillcrest, as well as the entire Temple region. The College Station region is also pursuing Magnet® designation.
