Donor Spotlight: PJs for PJ

Our McLane Children’s donors give for many different reasons and come in all shapes, sizes…and ages. At just eight years old, Paisley Trojanowski, or PJ, is among our most selfless donors, choosing to give up her birthday presents this year in favor of giving back to children in the hospital who are experiencing some of the same things she went through as a patient herself.

PJ is doing well after her treatment last year for cancerous growths in both her kidneys, known as bilateral Wilms tumors. Thrilled that their daughter is in remission, parents Melanie and Eric Trojanowski helped her launch the “PJs for PJ” campaign on Facebook. “We wanted to help our children be grateful for all the blessings we’ve received and to pay it forward,” says Mrs. Trojanowski. The project to donate pajamas to patients at McLane Children’s quickly went viral and has been shared nation-wide.

In lieu of opening birthday presents, PJ and three of her friends hand-delivered more than 120 sets of pajamas to the hematology/oncology clinic at McLane Children’s in January. Mrs. Trojanowski says they are quickly filling up a bedroom in their home with even more donations to bring to PJ’s next check-up!
