Get ready to cheer, learn and build a healthier future for kids in Central Texas—because teamwork is taking wellness to a whole new level! Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s is expanding its relationship with Baylor University Athletics in a joint effort to promote healthy lifestyles and empower children and families to live well. The collaboration emphasizes education, wellness outreach and community engagement, bringing together the hospital’s health expertise and the university’s athletic leadership to encourage active living and big dreams.
This expanded relationship will include initiatives focusing on programs that engage the public through community events and educational campaigns designed to promote healthy movement, physical fitness and overall well-being. By spotlighting collegiate athletes as positive examples of living a full and active lifestyle, McLane Children’s aims to help young people see the connection between activity and long-term health.
“The mission for all of us at McLane Children’s is to empower you to live well—not just through medical care but also by promoting healthy habits that last a lifetime,” said Dell Ingram-Walker, president of McLane Children’s. “Expanding our relationship with Baylor University Athletics allows us to bring that message to life in new and exciting ways that resonate with kids and families alike.”
McLane Children’s has long benefited from a relationship with Baylor University Athletics, which has kindly organized visits from student-athletes to the hospital and donations of toys for patients. This fall, McLane Children’s will be involved in activities on Baylor’s campus, including the Baylor Blitz and Meet the Bears—an interactive event focusing on healthy eating and movement for kids.
For Baylor University student-athletes across the university’s athletic programs, this expanded relationship is an opportunity to use their platform to give back and make an impact beyond the field or court. Student-athletes will have additional opportunities to participate with McLane Children’s, including making visits to the hospital and participating in other programs that promote well-being for children and families.
“Many in our Baylor family, including our students, staff and alumni, have benefited from the presence of McLane Children’s—either personally or through loved ones—and are passionate about giving back,” said Jovan Overshown, deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at Baylor University. “It means a lot to be able to partner with a children’s hospital right here in our backyard for the benefit of families throughout our Central Texas community.”
This collaboration reflects a growing movement to bridge healthcare and athletics for the benefit of community wellness. Through shared outreach, McLane Children’s and Baylor University Athletics aim to make health education accessible and inspiring.
“Whether it’s learning how to get active, eat better or just believe in yourself, we want kids and families to see that health is something for everyone, no matter your age,” added Mrs. Ingram-Walker. “Teamwork doesn’t start and stop at the sidelines! We are pleased to work with Baylor University Athletics to spread our messages to more families across Texas.”
