Over the past few years, the Washington family has had several encounters with Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s as they navigated different medical needs for their daughter, Olivia. Each visit has been a meaningful part of her health journey, beginning when she was just over a year old.
Olivia’s first visit occurred at 14 months after she fell from her father’s truck. Her parents brought her to the Emergency Department out of caution, wanting to ensure she hadn’t sustained a serious injury. Fortunately, evaluations showed that she was okay, and the family left feeling reassured.
As she approached age two, her parents sought an evaluation for a small bump on her abdomen—something they had noticed since infancy. They later learned it was an epigastric hernia. Pediatric general surgeons explained that the condition would not resolve on its own and recommended surgical repair.
On the day of her procedure, Olivia brought along her Vampirina doll, who received a matching “surgery” of her own. Both left with tiny bandages, creating a moment the family still laughs about. The procedure went smoothly, and Olivia recovered without complications.
At 7 years old, Olivia also met with a pediatric endocrinologist for a preventive check due to a family history of thyroid issues. While the visit was precautionary, Olivia left with a new stuffed bunny she named “Peaches,” which has since become a favorite.
For the Washington family, each visit—whether a minor emergency or a simple follow‑up—became part of a larger journey of learning, reassurance, and caring for Olivia’s health. Reflecting on their experiences, her mother shared, “We are so very grateful for this children’s hospital that is so close to home and full of exceptional physicians, nurses and so many others that have been involved in Olivia’s care.”
