Transport services at McLane Children’s
The transport team transfers sick or injured children from other area hospitals to McLane Children’s for an advanced level of care.
What we do
When other hospitals in our area encounter a sick or injured child in need of advanced care, our transport team is ready at a moment’s notice to transfer patients to McLane Children’s.
The team is made up of registered nurses, respiratory therapists and EMTs who have specialized training in stabilizing, treating and transporting pediatric and neonatal patients. Our ambulance and helicopter are outfitted with equipment designed specifically for children.
By the numbers
As the only pediatric specialty hospital between Dallas and Austin, McLane Children’s serves a geographic area the size of New England, made up of rapidly growing communities.
In fiscal year 2024, the McLane Children’s transport team responded to:
- 100+ calls per month, totaling 1,259 calls for the year
- 18% more than the previous year
How you can help
It is critical that our transport team can reach more children at a greater distance in less time. Your gifts can support equipment and training, such as:
- New vehicles to supplement our current ambulances as they log thousands of miles and face the mechanical demands of high usage
- Two new pediatric transport teams to help meet the needs of our growing communitiesincluding an additional team in Temple and a new team in the College Station region
- Equipment designed specifically for children, such as portable NICU isolettes, airway devices, life support systems and ventilators, cardiorespiratory monitors, infusion devices and more
