Child Protection Team at McLane Children’s
At Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center, the Child Protection Team provides compassionate medical care and support for these young victims—from the exam room to the court room.
Specialized care for vulnerable children
Violence and abuse is a reality for many children in our community. In fact, according to the National Children’s Alliance, child abuse affects one in four girls and one in 13 boys in the United States.
The multidisciplinary Child Protection Team includes specially trained physicians, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and forensic nurses, social workers and more, working together to care for children who have been through a traumatic experience.
- Conduct comprehensive forensic exams and treat suspected victims of child maltreatment and abuse
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention, including counseling, mental health and pastoral care services
- Provide court testimony regarding forensic exams
- Develop community education and abuse prevention programs, including shaken baby prevention programs
- Collaborate with community agencies to prevent child abuse
How you can help
Unfortunately, forensic nursing is a medical support service not eligible for reimbursement by payors and relies heavily on donor funding. You can make a difference for children who have been abused with your gifts to support forensic nurses, specialized equipment and prevention programs.
