How you can help
Transportation
About 25% of our cancer patients live in rural Washington County and do not have access to reliable transportation for their treatment appointments in College Station.
Your gifts can support a shuttle service for these patients that makes the round-trip between Baylor Scott & White Clinic – Brenham and Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center – College Station twice daily. With your help, this service could be expanded throughout the Brazos Valley.
Nurse Navigators
Your gifts can support the expansion of our nurse navigator program, which helps guide patients and their caregivers through what can be an overwhelming and emotional experience.
Nurse navigators partner with patients from their diagnosis, throughout treatment and into survivorship. These certified nurses serve as a point person, advocate, educator and guide, all at no cost to the patient. They handle logistical and administrative details large and small, allowing patients and families to focus on healing.
Technology & Equipment
Your gifts can help us respond quickly to emerging needs at the Cancer Center, such as:
- A second linear accelerator which delivers radiation therapy with pinpoint accuracy, sparing surrounding healthy tissue. A second machine will allow us to serve an additional 35 patients per day.
- A dedicated positron emission tomography (PET) machine for College Station, which helps identify cancers by revealing atypical metabolic functioning of body tissues, often before other imaging tests can detect the disease.
- A mammography/biopsy chair to improve patient comfort and reduce the time needed for biopsies.
