John and Barbara Racz of Horseshoe Bay began their relationship with Baylor Scott & White long before the hospital was built in Marble Falls. It all started when they moved from New Jersey to the Hill Country, following the recommendation of a close friend. They fell in love with the area and became deeply involved in numerous non-profit organizations.
When John heard about Baylor Scott & White’s plans to build a hospital in the area, he immediately recognized the need for quality healthcare and eagerly joined the fundraising efforts to make the hospital a reality. “The greatest gift we could give to the area was a first-class medical facility,” John said.
After Barbara passed away following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, John sought to stay active and engaged. In her memory, he joined the Baylor Scott & White – Marble Falls Development Advisory Board and volunteers weekly in the day surgery department. “I interface with the caregivers, patients and designated drivers in the waiting room. I’ll sit down with patients and have wonderful conversations. It’s been a very rewarding experience,” John says.
In honor of the care he and his wife received and their deep connection to the hospital, John decided to name Baylor Scott & White – Marble Falls as a beneficiary of his individual retirement account (IRA).
“I live by the Bible verse, ‘To whom much is given, much is required,’ and I strongly feel that everyone should do what they can,” he says. “This hospital is a great example of what people can do when they believe anything is possible. I like that spirit.”
