Remembering Mike Jenkins

When Mike Jenkins passed away in May 2026, the Texas Hill Country lost a devoted community leader whose faith, generosity and vision helped shape the region for generations. Yet his legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the organizations he faithfully served and the healthcare access he helped bring closer to home.

Mike and his wife, Lyn, grew up next door to each other and eventually fell in love and married. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family and service, sharing 63 years of marriage and raising three children. Their family legacy continues today through six grandchildren, six great- granddaughters and one great-grandson.

For many years, Mike farmed in Seminole, TX, where he learned the values that would guide his life: hard work, perseverance and stewardship. Those same values followed him when he and Lyn retired in the Hill Country.

Mike and Lyn believed that service was simply a way of life. Mike was a devoted husband, father, farmer, volunteer and community leader. They spent decades investing in the people and places they loved, leaving a lasting impact on the Texas Hill Country.

As the region grew, Mike recognized a critical need. Retirees and families were moving to the area, but healthcare options were limited, often requiring long trips to Austin or San Antonio. Determined to help find a solution, Mike joined a community committee alongside fellow leaders to explore ways to bring healthcare closer to home.

For nearly a decade, Mike and the committee traveled throughout Texas, studying successful healthcare systems and advocating for the growing needs of the Hill Country. Their efforts eventually led them to Baylor Scott & White.

Mike and the committee shared a compelling vision for the future of healthcare in the Hill Country. The need was clear: nearly 9,700 people were traveling each month to access physician services. Mike also highlighted the strength of the community itself. Although the Hill Country’s population was spread across a large geographic area, residents were deeply invested in the region’s future and eager to expand access to healthcare for families across the area.

Baylor Scott & White leaders recognized the opportunity to better serve this growing community and expand healthcare closer to home. Soon afterward, Baylor Scott & White made the decision to come to the Hill Country.

Lyn described Mike and the committee members as the community’s “founding fathers,” whose persistence and vision helped make quality healthcare close to home a reality. Their commitment did not stop with advocacy. Out of gratitude and belief in the mission, they supported Baylor Scott & White through philanthropy, including a generous gift to name one of the waiting rooms at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Marble Falls.

Today, Mike’s legacy lives on through the healthcare access he helped bring to the Hill Country, the organizations he faithfully served and the family he cherished. From helping establish Baylor Scott & White in the region to supporting its continued growth through philanthropy, Mike and Lyn’s generosity will continue to impact patients and families for generations to come.

“His faith, his family, his country and his community were always first,” Lyn said.
